Castle Hot Springs

Castle Hot Springs Oasis

The Oasis

Castle Hot Springs is our basic tour and is sometimes included as part of some of our extended tours.  This veritable Oasis in the desert has a long history, according Arizona Highways Magazine, dating back to some of the earlier Indian Tribes in Arizona.  It also includes the 'rich and famous' with names like the Rockefeller's and Vanderbilt's as well as movie stars like Clark Gable, Marilyn Monroe and John Wayne amongst others.  JFK and Jackie also vacationed there.  Even the Rockefeller's and Vanderbilt's had to reach it by Stage Coach in the late 1800's and early 1900's due to its remote location in the heart of the Castle Creek Wilderness area.

Copperopolis

Copperopolis Grave - Annie Mae White - 1881

Grave - Annie Mae White - 1881

The Copperopolis tour begins the same as our Castle Hot Springs tour then takes the right fork in the road at the 'Y' where the road divides to go to Morristown or up to the Ghost Towns of Briggs/Kirby and Copperopolis.  These towns had their beginnings in the late 1870's when nearly 500 people lived in Copperopolis.  This tour is one of the more rugged and remote tours that we offer in this area.  It follows the old Stage Coach and Teamster's wagon routes to these Ghost Towns and takes us deeper in the Castle Creek Wilderness.
